Through my painting, I’m interested in symbolic colour and spacial relationships. I think that painters’ temperaments are defined in their work.
I am absorbed by the idea of how liquid light can permeate a painting. I respond to the idea of making the background envelope or hug a figure, so the two become one.
Coming from many years of working in the medium of sculpture, my painting is influenced by volume, however, I’m intrigued that I can then flatten out objects and reject deep space. With painting, colour can become the descriptive force to compose narratives.
The physics of gravity and the idea of weightlessness or falling is an appealing subject. The appeal is partly the possibility of finding the space within the painting process that reveals unknown space.
